3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Khazzaz from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Once we were sitting and my father was with the governor of banu ‘Umayyah over the people of al-Madinah. My father came back and sat down and said, “I was in the court of this (governor) a little while ago and people asked about Taqsir (reducing Salah (prayer) on a journey after traveling a certain distance). Someone said that it is at three. Another one said that it is after traveling one day and one night. Yet another said that it is one rawhah. He (the Governor) then asked me and I said, ‘When Jibril came with Taqsir (reducing Salah (prayer) on a journey after traveling a certain distance) to the Messenger of Allah, the Holy prophet asked him, “At what distance is this?” He (Jibril) said, “It is at one barid.” He (the Messenger of Allah) asked, “What is that?” Jibril replied, “It is between the shadow of ‘Ayr (a certain mountain) to the shadow of 0‘Ayr.”’ He (the Imam) said that time passed, then it was seen that banu ‘Umayyah had placed marks on the road and mentioned what Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, had spoken of. They placed signs on the shadow of ‘Ayr and the outline of 0‘Ayr. They then divided it into twelve miles and it was three thousand and five hundred yards for each mile. They had placed signs on them. When banu Hashim appeared they changed the affairs of banu ‘Umayyah in a certain way because Hadith is from banu Hashim, thus they placed a sign next to each sign.’” (the Arabic word for yard is Dhira‘ (from the elbow to the tip of the fingers which is about eighteen inches)).

Il a dit : "Alors que nous étions assis et mon père était chez les Banu Umayya à Médine, mon père est venu et s'est assis. Il a dit : 'J'étais chez ce groupe de gens et je leur ai demandé leur avis sur le raccourcissement (de la prière). L'un d'eux a dit : trois (jours), un autre a dit : un jour et une nuit, et un autre a dit : un moment. Ils m'ont alors demandé et j'ai répondu : 'Lorsque l'Ange Gabriel (que la paix soit sur eux) est descendu sur le Prophète (que la paix soit sur lui et sa famille) avec le raccourcissement, le Prophète (que la paix soit sur lui et sa famille) lui a demandé : 'Dans quelle mesure ?' Il a répondu : 'Dans une distance de voyage.' Le Prophète a demandé : 'Qu'est-ce qu'une distance de voyage ?' Il a répondu : 'De l'ombre d'un arbre à l'autre.' Puis, un certain temps s'est écoulé et les Banu Umayya ont été vus en train de placer des drapeaux le long du chemin, mentionnant ce qu'Abu Ja'far (que la paix soit sur lui) avait dit. Ils ont étendu les drapeaux de l'ombre d'un arbre à l'autre, puis les ont étendus sur une distance de douze milles, ce qui équivalait à trois mille cinq cents coudées pour chaque mille. Ils ont ensuite placé les drapeaux, mais lorsque les Banu Hashim sont apparus, ils ont changé la disposition des Banu Umayya, car le hadith était de la famille Hashimite, et ils ont placé à côté de chaque drapeau un autre drapeau."

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about the limit of the miles which is involved in Taqsir (reducing Salah (prayer) on a journey after traveling a certain distance). Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al- Salam, said, ‘The Messenger of Allah had determined the limits of such mile to be from the shadow of ‘Ayr to the shadow of O’ Ayr and they are two mountains in al-Madinah. On sunrise the shadow of ‘Ayr falls on the shadow of O’ Ayr and that is the mile that the Messenger of Allah had set up for Taqsir (reducing Salah (prayer) on a journey after traveling a certain distance).”’

Il a dit : "On interrogea Abu Abdullah (que la paix soit sur lui) sur la distance à partir de laquelle il est permis de raccourcir la prière. Il répondit : Le Messager de Dieu (que la prière et la paix de Dieu soient sur lui et sa famille) a fixé la limite de la distance à parcourir entre les ombres de deux montagnes à Médine. Quand le soleil se lève, l'ombre de la montagne d'Air s'étend jusqu'à l'ombre de la montagne de Wair, et c'est cette distance que le Messager de Dieu (que la prière et la paix de Dieu soient sur lui et sa famille) a établie pour raccourcir la prière."

5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Barqiy, from Muhammad ibn Aslam al-Jabaliy from Sabbah al-Hadhdha’ from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a people who are on a journey. When they arrived at the place where they were required to perform their Salah (prayer) in a reduced form, they reduced their Salah (prayer). After traveling two, three, or four farsakh, one of them without whom their journey could not be done remained behind. They waited for his arrival. Without him their journey was not possible. They stayed there for many days without knowing to go forward or return. Are they required to perform their Salah (prayer) complete or reduce it?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If they have traveled four farsakh they reduce their Salah (prayer), regardless, they stay there or return. If they have traveled less than four farsakh, they perform their Salah (prayer) complete, regardless, they stay there or return.”’

Un groupe de nos compagnons a rapporté de Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Barqi, de Muhammad ibn Aslam al-Jabali, de Sabbah al-Hadhha', de Ishaq ibn 'Ammar, qui a dit : J'ai interrogé Aba al-Hasan (que la paix soit sur lui) au sujet d'un groupe de personnes en voyage qui, arrivant à l'endroit où il leur était permis de raccourcir la prière, ont raccourci leur prière. Lorsqu'ils avaient parcouru une distance de deux ou trois farsakhs, voire quatre farsakhs, un homme parmi eux s'est retardé et ne pouvait poursuivre le voyage sans lui. Ils se sont arrêtés en l'attendant de revenir vers eux, alors qu'ils ne pouvaient continuer le voyage sans lui. Ils sont restés ainsi pendant des jours sans savoir s'ils devaient poursuivre leur voyage ou rebrousser chemin, s'ils devaient compléter leur prière ou continuer à la raccourcir. Il a dit : S'ils ont atteint une distance de quatre farsakhs, qu'ils complètent leur prière comme s'ils étaient établis, qu'ils restent ou qu'ils partent. S'ils ont parcouru moins de quatre farsakhs, qu'ils accomplissent la prière en entier, qu'ils restent ou qu'ils partent. Une fois qu'ils sont partis, qu'ils raccourcissent la prière.
