Detestability of Laziness

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Ash’ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ’Laziness is an enemy of work.’”

2. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn Mahbub from Sa‘d ibn abu Khalaf from abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, Musa has said, ‘My father, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to a certain one of his sons, “Beware of laziness and impatience; these two can deprive you of your share in this world as well as in the hereafter.’””

Mon père (que la paix soit sur lui) a dit à l'un de ses enfants : "Méfie-toi de la paresse et de la lassitude, car elles t'empêchent d'atteindre ta part dans ce monde et dans l'au-delà."
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Umar ibn ‘Udhaynah from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one feels lazy to cleansing himself and to take wudu’ for Salat (prayer), there is nothing good in him in regards to his affairs in the hereafter. One who feels lazy in organizing his living conditions, there is nothing good in him for his worldly life.’”
Isnād`Alī ibn Ibrāhīm rapporte de son père, de Ibn Abī 'Umayr, de 'Umar ibn 'Udhayna, de Zurāra, de Abī 'Abdillāh (sur lui le salut) a dit:
Celui qui néglige sa purification rituelle et sa prière n'a pas de bien pour son au-delà, et celui qui néglige ce qui améliorerait sa vie quotidienne n'a pas de bien pour sa vie mondaine.
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn from Safwan from ‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘I dislike a man -or dislike for a man- who is lazy in his worldly affairs. One who is lazy in his worldly affairs is lazier in the affairs of his hereafter.’”

Je déteste qu'un homme soit paresseux ou que l'on soit paresseux envers lui dans les affaires de ce monde. Celui qui est paresseux dans les affaires de ce monde sera encore plus paresseux dans les affaires de l'au-delà.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran from abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Beware of laziness and impatience; with laziness you do not work and with impatience you do not yield to the truth.”

"Méfiez-vous de la paresse, de la lassitude et de la frustration, car si vous êtes paresseux, vous n'accomplirez rien, et si vous êtes frustré, vous ne rendrez pas justice."
6. Ahmad ibn Muhammad from has narrated from certain persons of our people from Salih ibn ‘Umar from al-Hassan ibn ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Do not seek help from a lazy person and you must not consult a helpless one.’”

7. Ahmad ibn Muhammad from has narrated from al-Haytham al-Nahdiy from ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ’Amr al-Wasitiy from Ahmad ibn ‘Umar al-Halabiy from Zayd al-Qattat from Aban ibn Taghlib who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Avoid wishing (daydreaming); it destroys the beauty of Allah’s favors to you and causes to suffer feeling of failure in your daydreaming and what you imagined.’”

J'ai entendu Abu Abdullah (sur lui la paix) dire : "Évitez les désirs, car ils emportent la joie de ce pour quoi vous avez été créés, et ils diminuent en vous les dons d'Allah le Très-Haut. Ils vous entraînent vers des regrets pour ce qui vous a trompés."
8. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated in a marfu’ manner the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When things (works) double, laziness and failure join hands, and they both give birth to poverty.’”
Isnādعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ
Le Commandeur des Croyants (que la paix soit sur lui) a dit : "Certes, lorsque les choses se sont multipliées, la paresse et la faiblesse se sont multipliées, et la pauvreté en est le résultat."
9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once wrote to one of his companions the following: . . thereafter take notice of the following. You must not excessively argue with the scholars, you must not verbally quarrel with the dimwitted ones; the scholars will hate you and the dimwitted ones will abuse you. You must not be lazy in the work for your sustenance; you will become a burden on the others’ - or that he (the Imam) said, ‘a burden on your family.’”
IsnādAli ibn Ibrahim a rapporté de Haroun ibn Muslim, de Mas'ada ibn Sadaka, qui a dit : Abu Abdullah (sur lui la paix) a écrit à l'un de ses compagnons :
Quant à la suite, ne discute pas avec les savants ni ne plaisante avec les sots, car les savants te mépriseront et les sots t'insulteront. Ne sois pas paresseux dans ta subsistance, sinon tu deviendras une charge pour autrui ou pour ta famille.
