6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from ibn abu Nasr from Harun ibn al-Jahm from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that when women migrated to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, among them was a woman called ‘Umm Habib who lowered girls. When the Messenger of Allah saw her, he (the Messenger of Allah) asked her, ‘O ‘Umm Habib, do you still do what you did before?’ She replied, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah, unless it is unlawful and you prohibit me.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘No, I do not prohibit. Come closer to me so I can instruct you.’ She has said, ‘I then went closer to him (the Messenger of Allah) and he (the Messenger of Allah) said, “O ‘Umm Habib, when you do it, do not be excessive to cut it from its root, only make it (the cut as little as) a scratch; it is more clearing for the face and enjoyable for the husband.’”
