498. Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Muhammad Bin Khalid, and Al-Husayn Bin Sa’d, from Al-Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Yahya Al-Halby, from Haroun Bin Kharjat, from Abu Baseer, who has narrated the following: Abu Ja’far (asws) regarding the Statement of Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic: “[2:247] And their prophet said to them: Surely Allah has raised Talut to be a king over you. He (asws) said: ‘He (as) was neither from the grandsons of the Prophets (as) nor was he (as) from the grandsons of the kings’. He said: Surely Allah has chosen him in preference to you”. And Said: “[2:248] And the prophet said to them: Surely the sign of His kingdom is, that there shall come to you the chest in which there is tranquillity from your Lord and residue of the relics of what the children of Musa and the children of Haroun have left, the angels bearing it”. And Allah (azwj) Said: “[2:249] Surely Allah will try you with a river; whoever then drinks from it, he is not of me, and whoever does not taste of it, he is surely of me, So they drank from it except for three hundred and thirteen men. From them were those who drank, and those who did not drink. So when it was time for duel, the ones who had drunk they said: We have today no power against Jalut and his forces. And those who did not drink said: How often has a small party vanquished a numerous host by Allah’s permission, and Allah is with the patient”.

Allah a envoyé Talut comme roi pour vous. Ils dirent : "Comment pourrait-il détenir le royaume sur nous alors que nous sommes plus dignes du royaume que lui ?" Il dit : "Il n'est ni de la lignée prophétique ni de la lignée royale. Allah l'a choisi pour vous. La preuve de son royaume est que l'Arche viendra à vous, avec une quiétude de la part de votre Seigneur, et des reliques des familles de Musa et de Harun. Les anges la porteront. Allah a dit : "Certes, Allah vous a éprouvés par une rivière. Celui qui en boira ne sera pas des miens, mais celui qui n'en goûtera pas sera des miens. Buvez-en, sauf un petit nombre parmi vous." Certains en burent et d'autres s'abstinrent. Quand ils affrontèrent Jalut et ses troupes, ceux qui avaient bu dirent : "Nous n'avons pas de force aujourd'hui contre Jalut et ses soldats." Et ceux qui n'avaient pas bu dirent : "Combien d'une petite troupe a vaincu une grande troupe par la permission d'Allah. Allah est avec les endurants."
