338. A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, and Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father altogether, from Ibn Mahboub, from Hisham Bin Saalim who said: I heard Abu Abdullah (asws) saying to Humraan Bin Ayn: ‘O Humraan! Look to the one who is below you in the capability, and do not look at the one who is above you in the capability, for that would be contentment for you with what Allah (azwj) has Distributed for you, and you would be more likely to receive more from your Lord (azwj). And know that a small amount of deeds with certainty are more preferable in the Presence of Allah (azwj) than the numerous deeds performed without certainty. And know that there is no devoutness which is more beneficial than avoiding the Prohibitions of Allah (azwj) and the restraint from hurting the Believers and back-biting against them, and no life more enjoyable than good manners, and no wealth more beneficial than contentment with less, and no ignorance more harmful than ‘الْعُجْبِ’ the self-conceit’.
IsnādUn groupe de nos compagnons de la part de Sahl ibn Ziyad et Ali ibn Ibrahim, de leurs pères tous ensemble, d'Ibn Mahboub, de Hisham ibn Salim, qui a dit : J'ai entendu Abu Abdullah (paix soit sur lui) dire à Humran ibn A'yan : "Ô Humran, regarde celui qui est en dessous de toi en termes de capacité et ne regarde pas celui qui est au-dessus de toi en termes de capacité, car cela te suffira de ce qui t'a été attribué, et il est plus probable que tu obtiennes une augmentation de ton Seigneur. Sache que l'action constante, même si elle est peu, basée sur la certitude, est meilleure auprès de Dieu, que l'action abondante basée sur l'incertitude. Sache qu'il n'y a pas de piété plus bénéfique que d'éviter les interdits de Dieu, de protéger les croyants contre tout préjudice et diffamation, et qu'il n'y a pas de vie plus paisible que la beauté du caractère, ni de richesse plus utile que la satisfaction avec peu de biens, ni d'ignorance plus nuisible que l'orgueil."
