Man’s Strength and Survival Depends On Four Things

4-62 Muhammad ibn al-Hassan - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Muhammad ibn al-Hassan al-Saffar quoted Muhammad ibn al-Hussein ibn Abil Khat’tab, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Sin’an, on the authority of Al-Mufaz’zal ibn Umar, on the authority of Aba Abdullah as-Sadiq (MGB), “Man’s strength and survival depends on four things: fire, light, air and water. Eating and drinking are assisted by fire. Man sees and understands by light. Man hears and smells by air. Man enjoys food and drinks with water. If there was no heat form fire in man’s stomach, he could not digest food or drinks. If there was no light for his eyes, he could not see and understand. If air did not exist, his stomach would not get heated. If water did not exist, he could not enjoy eating food and drinking beverages.”Al-Mufaz’zal ibn Umar added, “I asked the Imam (MGB) about the various types of fire. He (MGB) said, ‘There are four types of fire: fire that eats and drinks; fire that eats but doesn’t drink; fire that drinks but doesn’t eat; and fire that neither eats nor drinks. The first is the fire with which one eats and drinks and that is in men and animals. The fire which eats but doesn’t drink is the fire of wood. The fire that drinks but doesn’t eat is the fire of the trees. The fire that neither eats nor drinks is that of flint stone and a glowworm. ”
IsnādNous a informé Muhammad ibn al-Hasan (qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui) qui a dit: Nous a informé Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar qui a dit: Nous a informé Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Abi al-Khattab, de la part de Muhammad ibn Sinan, de la part d'Al-Mufaddal ibn 'Umar, de la part d'Abu 'Abdullah (paix soit sur lui) qui a dit:
L'homme se tient debout et subsiste grâce à quatre éléments: le feu, la lumière, le vent et l'eau. Par le feu, il mange et boit, par la lumière, il voit et comprend, par le vent, il entend et respire, et par l'eau, il trouve le plaisir de la nourriture et de la boisson. Sans le feu dans son estomac, la nourriture et la boisson ne seraient pas digérées, sans la lumière dans ses yeux, il ne verrait ni ne comprendrait, sans le vent, le feu de l'estomac ne s'éteindrait pas, et sans l'eau, il ne trouverait pas le plaisir de la nourriture et de la boisson. J'ai demandé au sujet des feux, et il a dit: Les feux sont de quatre types: un feu qui mange et boit, un feu qui mange sans boire, un feu qui boit sans manger, et un feu qui ne mange ni ne boit. Le feu qui mange et boit est le feu de l'homme et de tous les animaux, le feu qui mange sans boire est le feu du combustible, le feu qui boit sans manger est le feu de l'arbre, et le feu qui ne mange ni ne boit est le feu de la lampe et des étincelles.
