1. My father, may Allah grant him mercy, said: We were told by Sa’d bin Abdullah, from Ahmad bin Muhammed, from Ibn Faddal, from Yunus bin Ya’qoub, from Shu’aib al-‘Aqraqoufi, that he said: I said to Abu Abdillah, peace be upon him: There is something narrated from Abu Dharr, upon whom is the mercy of Allah, that he used to say: «Three things which the people hate, and which I love: I love death, and I love povery, and I love tribulation.» Then he said: Indeed, this is not like as they narrate. He only meant: Death in obedience to Allah is more beloved to me than life in disobedience to Allah, and poverty in obedience to Allah is more beloved to me than wealth in disobedience to Allah, and tribulation in obedience to Allah is more beloved to me than health in disobedience to Allah.
IsnādMon père - qu'Allah lui fasse miséricorde - nous a informés, de la part de Saʿd ibn ʿAbd Allah, d'après Ahmad ibn Muhammad, d'après Ibn Fudāl, de la part de Yūnus ibn Yaʿqūb, de la part de Shuʿayb al-ʿUqayqūfī, qui a dit : J'ai demandé à Abī ʿAbd Allāh - que la paix soit sur lui - une tradition concernant Abū Dharr - qu'Allah soit satisfait de lui - qui disait : Trois choses que les gens détestent et que j'aime : j'aime la mort, j'aime la pauvreté, j'aime l'épreuve. Il répondit : Ce n'est pas comme ils le pensent. Ce que je veux dire, c'est que la mort dans l'obéissance à Allah m'est plus chère que la vie dans la désobéissance à Allah, la pauvreté dans l'obéissance à Allah m'est plus chère que la richesse dans la désobéissance à Allah, et l'épreuve dans l'obéissance à Allah m'est plus chère que la santé dans la désobéissance à Allah.
