On eligibility for the Caliphate
De l'un de ses sermons (que la paix soit sur lui) concernant le Messager de Dieu (que la prière et la paix de Dieu soient sur lui et sa famille), et de celui qui est digne de la califat et de la déchéance de ce monde.
The Prophet is the trustee of Allāh’s revelation, the Last of His Prophets, the giver of tidings of His mercy and the warner for His chastisement.
"Le Messager d'Allah (paix et bénédictions soient sur lui) : 'Le digne de confiance de Sa révélation, le sceau de Ses prophètes, le porteur de la bonne nouvelle de Sa miséricorde, et l'avertisseur de Son châtiment.'"
O people, the most rightful of all persons for this matter (namely the caliphate) is he who is most competent among them to maintain it, and he who knows best Allāh’s commands about it. If any mischief is created by a mischief-monger, he will be called upon to repent. If he refuses, he will be fought.
Isnād[الجدير بالخلافة :]
Ô gens, celui qui est le plus digne de ce commandement est le plus fort parmi vous, et le plus instruit de la volonté de Dieu à ce sujet. Si un tumulte survient, que le tumultueux soit blâmé. S'il persiste dans son refus, qu'il soit combattu.
By my life, [1] if the question of Imāmah was not to be decided unless all the people were present, then there would be no such case. But those who agreed about it imposed the decision on those who were absent, so much so that he who was present could not dissent and the one who was absent could not choose (any one else). Know that I shall fight two persons — one who claims what is not his and the other who ignores what is obligatory upon him.
IsnādLe Prophète (que la paix soit sur lui) a dit
Par Celui en qui je jure, si l'imamat ne se réalise pas tant que la majorité des gens ne sont pas présents, alors il n'y a pas d'autre voie. Mais ses gens jugent pour celui qui est absent. Ensuite, il n'est pas permis au témoin de revenir en arrière, ni à l'absent de choisir. Certes, je combats deux hommes : un homme qui revendique ce qui ne lui appartient pas, et un autre qui refuse de rendre ce qui lui est dû.
[The need for sagacity in fighting against Muslims :] O creatures of Allāh! I advise you to have fear of Allāh because it is the best advice to be mutually given by persons, and the best of all things before Allāh. The door of war has been opened between you and the other Muslims. And this banner will be borne only by him who is a man of sight, of endurance and of knowledge of the position of rightfulness. Therefore, you should go ahead with what you are ordered and desist from what you are refrained. Do not make haste in any matter till you have clarified it. For in the case of every matter which you dislike we have a right to change it.
IsnādCe hadith est rapporté dans Nahj al-Balāgha.
Je vous recommande la crainte d'Allah, car c'est le meilleur conseil que les serviteurs puissent se donner, et c'est la meilleure issue des affaires auprès d'Allah. La porte de la guerre a été ouverte entre vous et les gens de la qibla. Seuls ceux qui possèdent la clairvoyance, la patience et la connaissance des vérités peuvent porter ce drapeau. Avancez dans ce qui vous est ordonné, arrêtez-vous à ce qui vous est interdit, et ne vous précipitez pas dans une affaire avant d'en avoir pris connaissance. Car avec chaque affaire que vous réprouvez, il y a des conséquences inattendues.
[The behaviour of this world with its adherents :] Know that this world which you have started to covet and in which you are interested, and which sometimes enrages you and sometimes pleases you is not your (permanent) abode, nor the place of your stay for which you might have been created, nor one to which you have been invited. Know that it will not last for you nor will you live along with it. If anything out of this world deceives you (into attraction), its evils warn you too.
Isnād[هوان الدنيا :]
Ô vous qui désirez et aspirez à ce monde, sachez que ce monde qui vous réjouit et vous attriste n'est pas votre demeure, ni la résidence pour laquelle vous avez été créés, ni celle à laquelle vous avez été appelés. En vérité, il ne restera pas pour vous, et vous ne resterez pas pour lui. Même s'il vous séduit, il vous a avertis de son mal.
You should give up (the objects of) its deceits in favour of (the objects of) its warning and (the objects of) its attractions in favour of (the objects of) its terrors. And while here in it, advance towards that house to which you have been called, and turn away your hearts from the world. None of you should cry like a maid slave over anything which she has been deprived of. Seek the perfection of Allāh’s bounty over you by endurance in obedience to Allāh and in guarding what He has asked you to guard, namely His Book.
Laissez ses illusions pour la mettre en garde, et ses désirs pour la terroriser. Précipitez-vous vers la demeure à laquelle vous avez été invités, détournez vos cœurs d'elle, et que personne parmi vous ne trahisse la confiance de la communauté en divulguant ce qui lui a été confié. Appréciez la grâce d'Allah en faisant preuve de patience dans l'obéissance à Allah et en préservant ce qu'Il vous a confié dans Son Livre.
Know that the loss of anything of this world will not harm you, if you have guarded the principles of your religion. Know also that after the loss of your religion nothing of this world for which you have cared will benefit you. May Allāh carry our hearts and your hearts towards the right and may He grant us and you endurance.
Certes, il ne vous nuira pas de perdre quelque chose de votre vie mondaine après avoir préservé les fondements de votre religion. Certes, il ne vous sera d'aucun secours de perdre quelque chose de votre religion après avoir préservé un aspect de votre vie mondaine. Allah a pris nos cœurs et les vôtres vers la vérité, et Il nous a inspiré, ainsi qu'à vous, la patience.
