40. Amīr al-mu’minīn, peace be upon him, said: The tongue of the wise man is behind his heart, and the heart of the fool is behind his tongue.
La langue du sage est derrière son cœur, et le cœur de l'insensé est derrière sa langue.
As-Sayyid ar-Raḍī says: This sentence has a strange and beautiful meaning. It means that the wise man does not speak with his tongue except after consulting his mind and exercising his imagination, but the fool quickly utters whatever comes to his tongue without thinking. In this way, the tongue of the wise man follows his heart while the heart of the fool follows his tongue.
IsnādLe seigneur Al-Ridâ a dit :
Ceci est parmi les significations nobles et étonnantes, indiquant que l'homme sage ne laisse pas sa langue s'exprimer sans avoir consulté la narration et planifié sa pensée. Quant à l'insensé, les bavardages de sa langue et les épanchements de ses paroles précèdent la révision de sa pensée et la confrontation de son opinion. Il est comme si la langue du sage était subordonnée à son cœur, et comme si le cœur de l'insensé était subordonné à sa langue.
