Directives à Ibn Abbas avant les discussions avec les Kharijites

Given to ‘Abdullāh ibn al-‘Abbās, at the time of his being deputed to confront the Khārijītes.

Et de la recommandation qu'il (que la paix soit sur lui) fit à Abdullah ibn Abbas lorsqu'il l'envoya pour réfuter les Khawarij.

Do not argue with them by the Qur’ān because the Qur’ān has many faces. You would say your own and they would say their own; but argue with them by the sunnah, because they cannot find escape from it.

Ne les dispute pas avec le Coran, car le Coran est porteur de multiples significations. Il dit quelque chose et ils disent autre chose. Mais argumente-les avec la Sunna, car ils ne trouveront pas d'échappatoire à celle-ci.
